How can I have NRO pre-select an attribute / swatch image rather than use the base item image.

Summary:

NRO offers a new option to have the system auto-select the first in-stock option in the first drop down menu and have the appropriate image swapped into the main image view.

Solution:

The default functionality of NRO is to display the primary product image when the page loads, and then have the attribute / swatch images underneath.

With this new option, the merchant can choose to have the system load the image of the first in-stock option from the first drop down menu. The example below shows how the black color is the first option in the drop down, and NRO auto-selects this option when the page loads.

This option can be accessed in the admin panel by going to System > Configuration > Catalog > Catalog > Configurable Item Options
